Dun-Pikin Farm is a small family operated horse boarding and lesson barn in Pasadena Maryland. We offer beginner and intermediate riding lessons for children and adults. We also offer a Pony Pal program, pony rides, and pony parties.
Working around the barn, gives me a lot of time to think. I clean stalls and I think, I walk horses in and out and I think, I drive the tractor and I think. You get the idea. I have to say though, sometimes it's about the oddest things. Today it was baling twine.
Earlier when I reached in my pocket there it was, baling twine. When I went to the trashcan to throw it away, there was more baling twine. When I walked into the barn there was a bunch of baling twine blowing in the breeze hanging near the hay.
The stuff is just everywhere. It seems to come alive. I can't tell you how many times I've had to untangle it from the mower blades, picked it up off the ground after the trash has been collected, and pulled it out from under the tractor tires. The stuff can be a real pain sometimes.
I do have to admit it does come in handy sometimes for tying things back, and bundling things up. I have even been known to tie up a fence board or two with it. It just seems like there should be something more to do with it.
At one summer camp we made a ball out of all the baling twine from the hay we used that week. At the end of the 5 day camp, we wound up a ball the size of a basket ball. That's a lot of baling twine, considering we use hay 365 days a year. It is actually a lot of "trash" to dispose of. Most of it is not even biodegradable. Most is now made out of some kind of plastic. What to do with it all?
I admit I mostly throw it away, but ..... what a waste! It's very strong, and it even comes in pretty colors. There must be something? Any ideas? Maybe I should have a contest to see who can come up with the most creative use for baling twine. Maybe knit or crochet with it?
Baling twine is an odd thing to be thinking about I know, but it's something that I deal with everyday. The barn gives me time to think. The barn for you, would be a great place to start your riding career. Come Ride With Us!

Strip grazers, like the B11, are designed for single reel systems and can be operated
by 6 “D” size batteries or a 12 volt rechargeable battery. The B11 is a cost effective strip grazing product for relatively short lengths of fence (500 m).

4A(frickin)M wake up call to dog barking downstairs and driveway sensor light coming on BAM! Husband jumps out of bed.... Coyote trotting down the middle of the street, stops, looks back at him like "you wanna a piece a'me?!!" Hate when they do that. Ducks are murmuring softly but urgently in their coop.
Ahhhh.... The small wee little homestead on a quarter acre in town on Puddle Dry Farm. Wish I had time to blog! Spent a couple of hours in my art studio because I couldn't possibly get back to sleep. Love predators - make you feel like you've drunk a gallon of coffee and could thread a sewing machine while it's running!
Off to sell real estate!

The Gallagher Weigh Scale W110 is a tough and reliable product designed for use
in typical livestock environments. However, proper care and maintenance can
extend its life.
Listed below are guidelines for keeping the Weigh Scale and Loadbars in good
condition:
• Store the Weigh Scale in a cool, dry area when not in use.
• After use, clean the Weigh Scale with a damp cloth. Take care not to scratch
the display.
• Don't submerge loadbars in any liquid, or spray at high-pressure.
• Carefully position the loadbar cables to prevent trapping or crushing.
• Regularly clean the area beneath the loadbars to prevent a build-up of
dirt/manure. The platform should be cleaned after use to prolong life.
• Do not transport loadbars with a weight applied to them. G-forces when
travelling may exceed rated capacity for the loadbar.
• Fit the dust caps provided on the cable connectors to keep the connections
clean and dry.
